About the Department of Clinical Psychology

The department of clinical psychology at the School of Rehabilitation and Behavioural Sciences was initiated on September 2023 in the Vinayaka mission’s medical college hospital, Karaikal, under the administrative control of Vinayaka Mission’s Research Foundation of Salem. The Department is headed by Dr. V.S Selvam with an experience of more than 20 years.

The department provides mental health treatment for children, adolescents and adults with mental health issues. From 2024 onwards The Department of Clinical Psychology offering M.Phil. in Clinical Psychology & From 2025 onwards B.Sc. Clinical Psychology (Hons) (RCI approved) programs are offered with a vision and mission.

Vision & Mission

Vision

To shape a compassionate and competent clinical psychologist dedicated to improving mental health through cutting edge, practice research and strong focus on the well-being of individuals and communities.

To cultivate a generation of ethical, skilled, and compassionate clinical psychologists who are equipped with a deep understanding of human behaviour and mental health, dedicated to improving the well-being of individuals and communities. Preparing graduates to meet the diverse mental health needs of society through evidence-based practices and innovative research.

To impart quality medical or mental health education for the student’s focusing on the betterment of patient’s safety, employee safety, environment safety and community safety.

To train future clinical psychologists to effectively address mental and physical health by providing essential diagnostic, therapeutic, rehabilitative, and administrative skills. It also emphasizes the importance of enhancing overall well-being and quality of life for individuals, preparing trainees to make a positive impact on the communities they serve.

Mission

To deliver a well-rounded education in clinical psychology, blending academic training and research opportunities. Strive to develop ethical, culturally aware professionals ready to meet the varied mental health challenges of society and contribute meaningful to the field.

To develop compassionate, culturally sensitive professionals who are equipped to contribute to the mental health field and positively impact society.

The course is a rigorous two-year program combining in-depth theoretical learning with extensive clinical experience, preparing trainees to perform well in the field of clinical psychology. Upon completion, they are expected to perform proficiently as professionals in the psychology field.
